Reports of a July 2000 protest at the Fabrica de Tubos Prodinco, a plastic pipe factory in General Pico, La Pampa, in which a number of former employees chained themselves to the building for four days; reasons for the protest; intervention by the provincial governor or trade unions; whether protest participants were subject to threats, harassment or arrest subsequent to the action (2000-April 2001) [ARG36913.E]

At an unspecified date between June and July 2000, 11 workers chained themselves to the fence of Tubos Prodinco, a pipe factory located in General Pico, La Pampa, and demanded that management meet its "severance payment" (indemnizaciones) obligations (La Nación 8 Aug. 2000). No mention of the length of time during which workers remained chained to the fence could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

According to an 8 August 2000 report by the Buenos Aires newspaper La Nación, Tubos Prodinco had been experiencing financial difficulties since at least June 2000. At this time, it stopped receiving resin used in pipe construction, and the local electricity provider subsequently cut power to the factory because of unpaid bills (ibid.). The report added that Victorio Américo Gualtieri, described as Tubos Prodinco's "only financial partner" (único socio financiero), was also experiencing financial problems in connection with a contract to build an aqueduct (ibid.).

No reports on the outcome of the workers' protest could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

No mention either of intervention by the provincial governor or trade unions, or of threats, arrest or harassment directed against protest participants, could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
