Russian Opposition Activist Attacked During Campaign Trip

A Russian activist who works with opposition leader Aleksei Navalny is in hospital after being beaten while on a campaign trip in Russia's Far East.

A photograph posted on Navalny's website appears to show Dmitry Taralov lying on the ground and being kicked by two men.

Navalny said Taralov was hospitalized with a concussion and broken front teeth after the attack on June 21 in the port town of Magadan.

The TASS news agency reported that a member of Russia's parliament from the Far East, Irina Yarovaya, asked police to find those responsible for the attack.

Taralov works in a fund set up by Navalny to investigate and expose official corruption in Russia.
