Information on the present situation of former Prime Minister Mizanur Rahman Choudhury (Chowdhury) [BGD10560]

According to a Dhaka Radio Bangladesh External Service broadcast, monitored by the Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS), "[a]cting Chairman of the Jatiya Party Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury [former prime minister] was arrested from his Gulshan residence in Dhaka in the early hours of Sunday [21 April]" (21 Apr. 1991, 34).
Without specifying a date, The Xinhua General Overseas News Service also reports the arrest of Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury by the Bangladeshi police (21 Apr. 1991). The source adds that he was arrested under the Special Power Act (Ibid.).
A Delhi All India Radio Network broadcast states that Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury was released on 2 August 1991 after "100 days in detention" (3 Aug. 1991, 69). The source maintains that the release of Mr. Chowdhury took place after a "division bench of the [Bangladeshi] Supreme Court" had declared his detention "illegal" (Ibid.).
Quoting the above Indian radio broadcast, the British Broadcasting Corporation also reports the release of Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury (BBC Summary 5 Aug. 1991).
Reuters, elaborating on political rivalry in Bangladesh, refers to Jatiya Leader Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury's criticism of the Bangladeshi government and an opposition party during a campaign rally (5 Sept. 1991, 1).
According to Reuters, the Jatiya Party nominated "former [P]rime [M]inister Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury and former [D]eputy [P]rime [M]inister Shah Mozzem Hossain" to run for two seats during the 1991 by-elections (10 Sept. 1991, 2).
Identifying Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury as "a former prime minister and acting [J]atiya P[arty] [C]hairman, The United Press International provides information on his February 1991 "hastily arranged news conference" (29 Feb. 1991, 1). During that news conference, which was held following the murder of three supporters of the Jatiya Party, the Chairman accused the Bangladeshi police and the ruling government of planning the murder (Ibid.).
Agence France Presse reports that:

[a]round 100 people, including several leaders of the deposed president Hussain Mohammad Ershad's Jatiya Party (JP), were hurt when unidentified men fired shots and set off bombs at a rally (10 Oct. 1991, 1).
The report holds that "former Vice President Moudud Ahmed and former Prime Minister Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury [were] carried away to safety by party workers" (Ibid.).
Additional information on this subject is currently unavailable to the IRBDC.
