Information on the freedom of unions and on human rights abuses committed against unionists in Peru in 1996-97 [PER26589.E]

Please find attached documents that refer to the situation of unions and unionists in Peru in 1996. Reports on the subject for 1997 could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB. A 1995 article from Latinamerica Press is included because it discusses new labour legislation that would have an impact on labour relations in 1996.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
