Information on the published list of "Mojahedin Martyrs," with the history and general content of the list published by the Mojahedin movement; follow-up to Response to Information Request IRN21606.E [IRN26744.E]

The following information was provided by a representative of the National Council of Resistance (NCR), during a telephone interview on 29 April 1997. The NCR is an umbrella organization of Iranian opposition organisations.

Two documents have been produced by the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran listing executed opponents of the Iranian government. The first of these is entitled List of Names and Particulars of 14,028 Victims of the Khomeini Regime's Executions, published in book form by the Publication Department of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran in October 1987. The second list is entitled "Names and Particulars of More than 2,000 Victims of Political Executions," produced in loose-leaf binder form in 1989 (telephone interview with a representative of the NCR).

The representative told the DIRB that those who are on the lists are people who were killed by the Iranian government for political reasons, not necessarily members or even supporters of the People's Mojahedin Organization. The representative said that the list is verified by means of first-hand testimony from people who were in Iranian prisons and families of execution victims (ibid.).

For additional information, please consult the attachment excerpted from "Names and Particulars of More than 2,000 Victims of Political Executions."

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
