No references to a particular treatment, harassment or abuses by police of relatives of current or former members of the Radical Social Democratic Party (Partido Radical Social Democrata, PRSD) could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

In 2002 the PRSD continued to be part of the Concertación Democrática coalition, which has governed Chile since 1990 (Latinamerica Press 14 Jan. 2002; The Economist 6 May 2002).

References to recourse available against possible abuses by police can be found in CHL32589.E of 30 August 1999, CHL29435.E of 22 May 1998 and earlier Responses. Additional information on the PRSD can be found in CHL28559.F of 16 January 1998. CHL28559.F includes references to a 15 January 1998 response by a PSRD representative on the question of possible abuses against members of the party in recent past years.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
