Please find attached several articles that deal with allegations of human rights abuses made against the former Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Canada, retired brigadier general Tissa Weeratunga. Please note that the attached articles refer mostly to the initial allegations, as reported in September 1986, and on the Canadian government's response to them. More recent reports discussing the diplomat's departure from Canada or his current whereabouts could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB, which include various on-line databases searched for this Response and the sources consulted for Response to Information Request LKA19863.E.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
