Roadside Bomb kills Government Administrator In Northwestern Pakistan

Pakistani officials say a roadside bomb blast has killed a government administrator and six tribal police officers in a tribal area on the border with Afghanistan.

Security official Rahmat Gul told RFE/RL that the vehicle of the official, identified as Fawad Khan, was struck by a bomb in Bajaur on September 17.

Muhammad Khorasani, a spokesman of the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Bajaur is one of the seven tribal agencies that makes up Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas along its volatile border with Afghanistan.

The Pakistani military says it has "cleared" Bajaur from Taliban militants and other extremist groups following a number of offensives there over the past decade, but attacks against government officials, security forces, and those seen as cooperating with the central government remain common.

On August 11, a powerful bomb blast killed at least three people and wounded more than 20 others in the Char Mang district of Bajaur, authorities said.
