An Afghan official says a suspected U.S. drone strike in eastern Afghanistan killed at least 16 militants.

Javed Joshan, the governor of Alisher district in Khost Province, told RFE/RL on November 26 that the drone strike hit an area known as Gagi Mountain near the Pakistani border.

Joshan said the strikes occurred in the early hours of November 26.

He said most of the militants killed were Pakistanis.

An eyewitness in Alisher district said half of the bodies were buried in Khost while others were taken over the border to Pakistan.

Suspected U.S. drone strikes have previously targeted Al-Qaeda, the Pakistani Taliban, and Islamic State militants in eastern Afghanistan.
