November 24, 2015
Taliban militants have reportedly captured at least 15 people after a helicopter crashed in northern Afghanistan.
Local officials say three people were killed in the crash, which occurred in Faryab Province on November 24.
An army officer in Faryab said the civilian aircraft had been contracted to transport army personnel.
One police source said two foreign soldiers were among those captured.
Provincial police chief Sayed Aqa Andarabi said the helicopter crash landed after experiencing a technical problem.
He said security forces launched an operation to rescue the men.
"We captured 15 [people],” local Taliban official Damullah Wakil was quoted as saying. “If the army doesn't stop [its rescue attempts], we will execute them."
