Roadside Bomb Kills Pakistani Soldier Near Peshawar
November 21, 2014
Pakistani officials say a bomb planted on a motorcycle killed a soldier and wounded another in northwestern Pakistan on November 21.
The attack happened in the Mithra area on the outskirts of Peshawar, the capital of the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Pakistani security officials say the motorcycle was parked on the side of a road and the explosives were detonated by remote control as an army vehicle was passing by.
Nobody immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing.
Convoys of Pakistani security forces, as well as NATO supply trucks traveling to neighboring Afghanistan, routinely come under militant attacks in the area.
In June, Pakistan’s military began a major offensive against militant hideouts of the nearby tribal region of North Waziristan, a stronghold for Pakistani Taliban and foreign Islamic militants.
