Two Suspected Militants Killed In Russia's Volatile Daghestan

Police in Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Daghestan have killed two suspected militants in a shootout.

Daghestani law-enforcement officials say the incident took place early in the morning on August 26 near the village of Matseyevka in the western district of Khasavyurt. No casualties among the police were reported.

Daghestan and other republics in Russia's restive North Caucasus region have been plagued by violence linked to Islamic extremism and organized crime for years.

Scores of people have been killed or injured by the violence.
