Your Gateway to Country of Origin Information
ecoi.net provides up-to-date and publicly available country of origin information with a special focus on the needs of asylum lawyers, refugee counsels and persons deciding on claims for asylum and other forms of international protection. Access to information is facilitated by a comprehensive search tool and Topics & Issues files, offering thematically structured information on asylum-relevant topics and issues for a set of focus countries.
ecoi.net collects, structures and processes reports by non-governmental, governmental and international organisations, news, maps and national laws. ecoi.net also provides a sorted list of resources helpful for an additional country of origin research. Most documents are in English but many documents are also available in German and partly in French.
Topics & Issues Files for Focus Countries
For a set of currently 11 focus countries more detailed country of origin information is provided in Topics & Issues files, offering thematically structured information on different asylum-relevant topics and issues.
The structure of the files aims at a balance between a standardised table of contents - allowing for easy browsing - and sufficient flexibility to accommodate issues that arise only in one country or are of particular significance with regard to claims from individuals coming from one particular country of origin.
Currently, Topics & Issues files are available for Afghanistan, Armenia, China, Georgia, India, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, the Russian Federation and Chechnya, Sudan and Turkey. They are updated on a regular basis.
In addition, 2 Topics & Issues files focusing on health care are available for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Guinea.

Boolean operators, wildcards, a fuzzy search, a search for phrases as well as the possibility to group search terms allows you to specify your search query and to increase the number of results relevant for your research. You may further restrict your search to a specific source, type of document, language of document or date.
