Asylum Aid
Asylum Aid is an independent, national charity that works to secure protection for people seeking refuge in the United Kingdom from persecution and human rights abuses abroad. Asylum Aid provides free legal services to asylum-seekers with a particular focus on the most vulnerable and excluded, it lobbies and campaigns for an asylum system based on inviolable human rights principles working closely with refugee and other community-based organisations.
Forum 18
Forum 18 News Service is a Christian web and e-mail initiative to provide original reporting and analysis on violations of the religious freedom of all people, whatever their religious affiliation. It mainly publishes on the former Soviet states, notably Belarus and Central Asia, but also publishes original work on states such as Serbia, Turkey, and China. The name 'Forum 18' comes from Article 18 of the Universal Declarattion of Human Rights. Anyone may subscribe free of charge to the full or weekly summary edition at, and anyone may reproduce or quote from our material, with due acknowledgment to Forum 18.
Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre
The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC), established in 1998 by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), is an international body monitoring conflict-induced internal displacement worldwide.
Swiss Refugee Council
Independent of the Swiss authorities, the Swiss Refugee Council does research on the refugee situation in particular countries. Besides internally and externally composed position papers and topic reports, the Swiss Refugee Council research programme also draws up expert assessments and examines individual cases. The country experts have access to information networks in the countries of origin and to external experts, organisations and institutions in Switzerland and other countries They also go on research journeys and they co-operate with the European Country of Origin Network.
UK Home Office - COI Service & Border and Immigration Agency
The COI Service provides information on asylum seekers’ countries of origin for use by UK Border Agency (UKBA) officials at all stages of the asylum determination process. The COI Service’s specialist country officers research, collate and summarise information on countries giving rise to asylum claims in the UK. The country officers monitor the situation in their countries daily and have access to the most up-to-date sources. All COI Service products focus on human rights issues and matters frequently raised in asylum and human rights claims. They are compiled from reliable material produced by a wide range of external information sources such as the US Department of State, UNHCR, human rights organisations, and news media. All COI Service products are in the public domain and are based on published or unclassified source material. Hyperlinks are provided within the COI products to most of the original source documents referred to. COI Service products do not contain any UKBA opinion or policy.
The Border and Immigration Agency, an executive agency of the UK Home Office, is responsible for controlling the borders and managing immigration in the UK. It also considers applications for permission to stay, citizenship and asylum.
